Red Cabbage With Apples | Baby Constipation Recipe

by

Suitable Age

From 7 Months

Intended Purpose

Baby Constipation

Preparation Time

20 Minutes

The combination of cooked red cabbage and raw apples (skin on) makes a great natural baby constipation remedy for babies from 7 months.

Both, cooked red cabbage and raw apples contain lots of fiber. Moreover, apples contain sorbitol which is a natural laxative. Combining both usually helps a constipated baby in no time.

For an extra electrolyte boost, you can add my homemade chicken broth. Chicken broth generally helps to rehydrate, which is particularly useful in case of constipation.

Ingredients

1 cup (200g) chopped red cabbage

1/2 cup (100g) chopped apples (leave skin on)

1 tbs organic coconut oil

Water

Optional: 1/4 cup (60ml) home-made chicken broth for extra electrolytes and rehydration (view recipe)

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Heat a pan (medium heat) and add the coconut oil

Step 2

Add the chopped cabbage and steam for 2-3 minutes (stir regularly)

Step 3

Add 1/2 cup (120ml) of water and bring to boil

Step 4

Once boiling, reduce to medium heat, cover with a lid and let it simmer for about 10 minutes (stir occasionally)

Step 5

Once the water evaporated, add the cabbage to a blender

Step 6

Add the chopped apples

Step 7

Add 1/4 cup (60ml) of either homemade chicken broth or water. If you want the consistency to be super-creamy, you can add more of either the chicken broth or water (up to 1/2 cup or 120ml).

Step 8

Blend until you get a smooth consistency and serve immediately

Feeding Recommendation

As much as your baby likes (preferably for lunch).
